Hearts, Chocolates and Bugz bunny! Valentines cats, dogs and rabbits visit our London Vets

Diego’s Heart Scan

Here we have Diego, a small friendly cat who came to our Wimbledon Vet Surgery for a routine check up the other day and our vet found that he has a heart murmur. Heart murmurs can be perfectly normal in some cats, but can also be a sign of heart disease that can go undetected. The best way to tell the difference is to do an ultrasound or scan of the cats heart just like we’ve done in Diego here, who as it turns out has a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

This is a common condition in cats where the muscle of the heart gets thicker over time. Luckily we’ve picked it up early so we can get Diego the right medication to keep his heart ticking along nicely!

Sadie the cheeky Cockapoo 💕

Sadie will be on fluids during her stay with regular blood tests to monitor her blood glucose levels. She’s getting lots of fuss from all the nurses and some tlc from our care assistant Chloe 🥰

Sadie managed to gobble up a chocolate breakfast bar and a very worried owner rushed her into our Streatham Hill Surgery. Luckily she did as this particular bar contains the ingredient xylitol. Xylitol is a sugar substitute that is extremely toxic to dogs. It affects the liver and their blood sugar levels. Signs of toxicity cannot always be seen straight away and can appear up to three days later. Some of these signs are vomiting, seizures, disorientation, lethargy and coma. Xylitol can be found in products such as chewing gum, toothpaste, peanut butter and in poor Sadie’s case a breakfast bar.

Bugz Bunny!

What a perfect spring like day to have a bunny in 🐰this is Bugzy with our vet Gavin. Bugzy paid our Croydon Veterinary Surgery a visit to have his front teeth trimmed, it’s not uncommon for rabbits to have this done.

Other ways to help with over growing teeth are the rabbits food which should include things high in fibre that will help to wear them down. Bugzy was such a good boy today, we will see him again in a few weeks to get his teeth again 💚

When Gertrude met Issy

Gertrude the Shar Pei and Issy the Vet 🐾 Gertrude visited Mayow Vets for the first time. With all those wrinkles she was instantly a star 💫
